After promotion to Third Division

After VfB Lübeck last week announced the possibility of extending Lukas Pfeiffer’s contract with promotion to the Third Division, the club have now confirmed that the 32-year-old will continue to act as head coach. The promoted team thus risks a penalty from the DFB because the coach has not yet had the necessary UEFA Pro license.

Pfeiffer said in a club statement: « I am very grateful for the great trust that VfB has placed in me and for the courage that was needed for this decision. I have always stressed that I felt very comfortable in Lübeck and Lohmühle and would like to work here longer, preferably as a head coach, of course. I am very happy that this is now possible and look forward to further cooperation and great tasks ahead of us together. I will do my best to help establish the VfB in professional (Site notre bureau spécialisé) with my work.

The former German national team video analyst under Joachim Löw holds a B license. Yet as part of his appointment as head coach in the summer of 2021, he had been given a promise by the DFB to be able to s register for the A license course, which is a prerequisite in the Regionalliga Nord. After the corona pandemic, the application process for the apprenticeship was changed, and since then other applicants have been preferred.
