2nd league: 1. FC Nürnberg fall to Hannover 96

Second three in a row

1. FC Nürnberg missed the jump from the bottom of the table to the 2nd Bundesliga. The Franconians clearly lost 0:3 (0:1) at Hannover 96 on Saturday evening and are therefore still in the relegation battle. For the first time since the 16th day against Fortuna Düsseldorf (2-0) in early November 2022, the 96ers remained scoreless.

In front of 28,500 spectators, Julian Börner (43rd minute), Derrick Köhn (49th) and Maximilian Beier (70th) scored the goals for Lower Saxony, for whom it was their second victory in a row. With 40 points, coach Stefan Leitl’s side have finally settled into the solid midfield of the table.

In a fast-paced encounter, Nuremberg got off to a good start and created some great chances. The hosts held up well and took the lead just before half-time. After a free kick from Jannik Dehm, Börner scored with a header. Shortly after the switch ends, Köhn increased the lead to 2-0 with a nice shot from long range. This broke the resistance of the Franks. Maximilian Beier made the final score 20 minutes before the end.
