Holstein before promotion to the Bundesliga

Holstein Kiel march undeterred towards promotion to the Bundesliga. The Storks also won against Hamburger SV – for the sixth time in a row. KSV also played to zero for the sixth time in a row. Both constitute club records in the 2nd Bundesliga. Two more games with a clean slate miss the league record. The lead over HSV in fourth place stands at twelve points. The Rothosen themselves are now six points behind Düsseldorf in the relegation zone with a significantly worse goal difference.

For HSV, it was probably a decisive setback in the race for promotion. Former Paulian Tom Rothe (59th) scored the winning goal at Altonaer Volkspark to make the score 1-0 (0-0). After the expulsion of Lewis Holtby (73rd), Holstein survived the final phase outnumbered.

Hamburg tried hard, but needed a few minutes to get into the game. The absence of their top scorer Laszlo Bénes due to injury was felt in certain situations. Thanks to a double opportunity from Glatzel and Jonas Meffert (53rd), HSV was close to taking the advantage. But the visitors scored from a corner from Rothe who replaced Porath (59th). The goal stood even after a VAR check. Things got exciting again after the yellow-red card for Holtby. But HSV could not equalize. The Hanseatic League was also lucky when a handball by Ludovit Reis in the penalty area was not awarded a penalty after referee Sascha Stegemann studied the video (45th+3).
