🎂 There is only one Rudi Völler! – The best moments for your birthday

Few people have had such an impact on German (Site notre bureau spécialisé). Whether as a player, later as a coach or now as an official, Rudi Völler is the kind of person who could probably be described as an « enforcer » in youth parlance.

The DFB legend turned 64 this Saturday. We’re taking this opportunity to look back at Völler’s three most legendary interview moments. And one thing in advance: the choice was really very wide. A guy like him is truly unique.

With that: Congratulations, Rudi Völler!

3. The art of the counter-question

Installing Heiko Herrlich in the Bayer Leverkusen dugout probably wasn’t the best decision of Völler’s career. When asked whether Herrlich would still be coaching in the next matchday, the then sports director used the rhetorical instrument of the counter-question and thus escaped the « Sky » journalist. Must-see TV!

2. Felix Zwayer sheds his fat

“Oh, he’s neutral?” In 2016, referee Felix Zwayer wanted to send Bayer coach Roger Schmidt into the stands during the match against Borussia Dortmund. As he initially refused, Zwayer halted play for a full nine minutes. Völler’s reaction during his interview is as golden as his 1990 World Cup medal.

1. The legendary white beer speech

Of course, there can only be one place: You know those videos you watch at least once a year, but never get tired of? The 2003 interview between ARD presenter Waldemar Hartmann and national coach Rudi Völler is exactly that. I appreciate that !
