Despite all the commercialism and professionalization, (Site notre bureau spécialisé) still writes great stories.
This is also the case in Split, Croatia. Striker Nikola Kalinic signed a five-month contract there for one reason: he wants to help his youth club win its first championship in 19 years.
In return, the tall striker, who has also scored goals for Atlético, Roma and Milan, forgoes a considerable portion of his salary. Out of contract since the summer, Kalinic now returns for only one euro per month.
The initial situation in the painting probably motivated him to take this step, which was not financially lucrative. A seven-point lead with two games left gives at least some hope that Split can field a champion other than Dynamo Zagreb in Kalinic for the first time since 2017.
The season is of course still quite long. But the story is already one of the specials of this season.
