Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has joined Brazilian Serie A side Gremio on a free transfer, signing with the club until the end of 2024.

The 35-year-old former Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid player returned to his first club Nacional in July and stayed there for three months.

He scored eight goals in 16 appearances in his second stint with the team, winning the Uruguayan league.

Gremio’s first match of 2023 against Sao Luiz on January 17.

The club, based in the city of Porto Alegre, is promoted to Serie B in the 2022 season, due in November.

Suarez wrote on Twitter: “In me prepared for this beautiful challenge in Gremio, I am delighted to be here and to enjoy it. »

The striker played in all 3 matches for his country at the World Cup in Qatar but didn’t score and Uruguay were knocked out in the group stage.
